Overview

LifeSource is a regional nonprofit organization that manages organ and tissue transplants. The new 2-story, 40,000 square foot corporate headquarters serves not only as office space for the organization’s 145 employees, but also contains clinical spaces, including a morgue and organ/tissue recovery rooms. The two-wing, V-shaped building and site with its views to the river is also intended as a place of reflection and gathering for both recipients and donors’ families. The building’s primary structural system is structural steel with composite metal deck. Poor soil conditions dictated the use of a structural slab at grade with a piling foundation. The structural design also allows for future growth and added functions. Among the project’s sustainable design features is a green roof and terrace overlooking the memorial garden.
