DANIEL E. MURPHY, PE, PRINCIPAL
Dan's 37 years of experience as a structural engineer comprises a broad range of structural design systems, materials, and delivery methods. A principal of the firm since 1982, he has led a wide variety of projects including many with multiple bid packages and compressed schedules. He has worked extensively with higher education and medical facilities. Dan is a member of the Structural Advisory Committee for Building Codes and Standards for the state of Minnesota. He is also on the board of directors of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota and ACE Mentor Program of America. In 2006, he was the American Institute of Architects-Minnesota Special Award honoree for his “significant contribution to the built environment” as a structural engineer.
MICHAEL J. RAMERTH, PE, PRINCIPAL
As a principal of MBJ and structural engineer for 36 years, Mike leads structural design and oversees the structural team. He has been involved in numerous highly complex projects and has experience with all types of structural systems and delivery models, working with national and international clientele. As Chair of the Minnesota Concrete Council’s Research Committee and Past President, Mike leads research on “green” concrete, focusing on best mixes and conditions for maximum durability. He has spoken at the Cement Slag Association’s annual conference on the topic of green concrete and is a regular participant in the University of Minnesota’s Annual Concrete Conference, for which he received the conference’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2009.
JEROD HOFFMAN, PE, PRINCIPAL
Jerod oversees the structural engineering team, establishing project team relationships and processes. Within the firm, he shares business responsibilities with other firm principals, leads the educational outreach program to architects and university students, and mentors others. Mr. Hoffman is experienced with all types of structural methods and materials, and has led several highly complex, award-winning projects. He has successfully worked with alternate delivery modes, compressed schedules, and projects with multiple phases and is a skilled manager of out-of-state projects.
ANTHONY J. POLUSNY, PE, SECB, PRINCIPAL
As manager of MBJ's Phoenix office, Tony leads projects, design, and client development efforts in the Southwest. He works with all varieties of structural systems and specializes in concrete structures. In his role as principal-in-charge, he determines design direction with a focus on project economics and scheduling. His experience with alternate delivery methods includes design build, as well as simultaneous delivery of one project to more than one contractor, as was the case for the award-winning Regis Center for Art at the University of Minnesota. As a certified AIA/CES provider, Tony presents educational seminars to architectural clients.
BRION SZWED, PE, LEED AP, ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL
During his nearly 30 years as a structural engineer, Brion's experience has spanned a broad range of market types, including airport, subway, commercial, retail, office, industrial, hospital, educational, hospitality, casino, and zoo facilities. He is familiar with the full palette of structural materials and possesses a thorough understanding of the design and construction process, including phased projects with multiple bid packages. A focus on responsiveness, communication, multi-discipline coordination, constructability, and quality control is central to Brion's project approach.
