> IMATION DISCOVERY CENTER
Imation Location: Oakdale, Minnesota
Square Feet: 440,000
Owner: Imation
Architect: Elness Swenson Graham
Contractor: McGough Construction
Description: Constructed on a fast-track, 14-month schedule, the 440,000 square foot, four-story office building has a cast-in-place concrete, wide module frame. Because of the condensed construction schedule, the design of portions of the concrete floor system was controlled by the construction phase loads, which were greater than the service live loads. This allowed other trades to move in and start work with only one floor of re-shoring. High early strength concrete, self-supporting pour strips, partial post-tensioning, portable batch plant, and a can-do approach by the design team also helped to complete this “fast track” project on time.

> SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY TWIN CITIES OPERATIONS
Seagate TC - small
Location: Shakopee, MN
Square Feet: 410,000
Owner: Seagate Technology
Architect: Pope Architects
Contractor: M.A. Mortenson
Description: Delivered on a fast track, this project consisted of a new facility to house Seagate's Twin Cities operations. The steel framed structure provides office, laboratory, and clean-room facilities. Other structural systems include concrete floors, and steel joist and deck roof. Exterior walls are constructed using non-bearing, insulated precast concrete units.

> SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH FACILITY
SeagateL-small Location: Longmont, CO
Square Feet: 460,000
Owner: Seagate Technology
Architect: Pope Associates
Contractor: M.A. Mortenson
Description: The 460,000, two-story building houses the research and product development functions of Seagate Technology and includes 12,000 square feet of Class 10 clean rooms, as well as Class 100 and Class 1000 clean rooms. The primary structural system is composite steel with concrete floors and a roof framing system that uses steel joists and steel deck. Project delivery was fast-track design-build.

> U OF M MECHANICAL ENGINEERING BUILDING
Mechanical Engineering - small
Location: Minneapolis, MN
Square Feet: 140,000
Owner: University of Minnesota
Architect: Stanius Johnson Architects
Contractor: Knutson Construction
Description: As one of the leaders in mechanical engineering technology, the University of Minnesota wished to expand and update its facilities. The result was a new five-level building with a variety of labs including specialized labs for advanced environmental engineering, high temperature, thermal optics, robotics, and wet chemicals study, as well as a 1,400 square foot prototyping lab. Other spaces include classrooms, competition hangers, a student lounge, and office space. Structural systems are almost entirely cast-in-place concrete with a four-story, glass and steel atrium located at the entrance to the facility. The project also includes a large chiller plant, which contributes to the district cooling system.

> H.B. FULLER LABORATORY AND OFFICE BUILDING
HB Fuller - small
Location: Vadnais Heights, MN
Square Feet: 146,000
Owner: H.B. Fuller
Architect: Architectural Alliance
Contractor: McGough Construction
Description: The second phase of the H.B. Fuller Laboratory in Vadnais Heights doubled the size of the original building, adding approximately 146,000 square feet. The addition was framed with a cast-in-place, wide-module pan-joist system to support the heavier floor loads and virtually eliminate building system vibrations. Some of the prominent architectural features include sloped skylights, a two-story cafeteria with full-height glass, and a main entrance and conference area featuring architectural precast concrete. The project was delivered on a fast-track schedule.
