MBJ is pleased to announce the promotion of Brion Szwed, PE, LEED, AP, to associate principal. Brion has 26 years of experience in the field of structural engineering and holds registrations in 29 states. He has extensive, ongoing experience with aviation projects at the St. Paul/Minneapolis International Airport, in addition to a broad range of other market types. He is currently project manager on T-Rex and Yak & Yetti, two upscale restaurant projects at Disney World and Animal Kingdom, respectively, in Orlando, FL. Brion's new position reflects his increased involvement in the marketing and operational decision-making of the firm. Brion joined in MBJ in 2002.
MBJ has also promoted Michael Hemstad, PE, Jason Pederson, PE, and Robert Zuehl as associates of the firm. All three joined MBJ in 2005.
Mike holds a masters degree from the University of Minnesota and has 24 years of experience as an engineer. He recently led structural engineering for the Westin Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, a historic conversion of the Farmers and Merchants Bank building.
Jason Pederson, also a graduate of the University of Minnesota, has 12 years of experience as a structural engineer. He currently leads the structural engineering team for the new student commons at Bethel University in Arden Hills. Jason also manages MBJ's Building Information Modeling (BIM) program.
Bob Zuehl manages CAD operations for MBJ's Phoenix office and co-leads MBJ's CAD Standards Committee. He began his career as a drafting technician in 1980 after graduating from Edison Community College in Fort Myers, FL. Before joining MBJ, he wrote CAD Standards for two other firms.
