| Eden Prairie, Minnesota 70,000 Wooddale Church Bentz Thompson Rietow, Inc. Adolfson & Peterson Construction
| | Construction materials used for the 70,000 square foot sanctuary addition included cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete, reinforced masonry, and structural steel. The sanctuary addition seats 2,000 and features clear span ceilings to over 100 feet. A 150-foot, structural steel spire is mounted on the roof and overlays a large skylight. To meet the challenges of lateral load resistance, a system was installed that included three diagonally braced column pairs and intermediate roof level cast-in-place concrete diaphragms. MBJ provided structural services for other expansion phases of the Wooddale campus in 1990, 1996, and 1999. |

| | The focal point of this worship facility is a large, octagonal-shaped, brick-clad sanctuary, featuring a 50-foot high ceiling with exposed steel framing. Situated at the apex, a skylight brings daylight into the worship area. Two one-story wings, accommodating classroom and meeting space, stretch out from the sanctuary. At their junction, a nearly free-standing social hall repeats the octogonal theme. |

| | Flooded with daylight, which enters through a skylight and floor to ceiling curtainwall on either side, the 13,000 square foot sanctuary rises to a height of 58 feet. The glulam and wood-decking ceiling features exposed steel trusses and girders. Adding to the dramatic beauty of the space, wood-framed sections of organ pipes span the stage at the front of the worship area. Sloping pews on the main floor and in the column-free balcony allow worshippers an unobstructed view of the activities. The narthex acts as both entryway and bridge between the worship area and a two-story classroom and office wing. The overall structure of the facility is structural steel with brick-faced masonry bearing walls. |
