| | This new hospital for heart disease management, teaching, and clinical research adds 405,000 square feet of space to the Abbott Northwestern campus. Primary structural systems are cast-in-place concrete and structural steel. One of the project's structural design challenges was connecting the new structure to three adjacent buildings (previous phases) with story heights as shallow as 12'-6". Also, because the new hospital extends over 27th Street and up to an existing parking ramp, it had to be designed to cantilever to the south slab edge, providing clearance for new footings. The new hospital comprises invasive procedure rooms, labs, patient care rooms, and support areas. |

| This new seven-story, 260,000 square foot health care clinic contains outpatient imaging, radiology, two MRIs, women’s care, administration, a restaurant, loading docks, and two skyways leading to city-owned parking ramps. Foundation walls and footings are cast-in-place concrete, structural steel framing supports composite decks, and cast-in-place concrete shear walls resist lateral load.
The SMDC First Street Building is the one of the first of ten healthcare facilities in the United States to receive LEED Gold Certification. More than 75% of the materials used in the building came from sustainably managed forests and more than one-third from within a 500-mile radius of the site. | LEED Gold Certification

| | This new, five-story medical complex adds over 128,000 square feet of space to the United Hospital campus in St. Paul and houses 125 new medical specialists, 300 support staff, imaging and diagnostic equipment, patient rooms, and labs. The building is framed with structural steel, composite concrete floor slabs. and uses precast concrete and glass for the exterior walls. Special features include a four-story waterfall in the lobby atrium and a skyway/link system requiring a creative structural design and complex foundations to accomodate exisiting site conditions. |

| | The HealthPartners Specialty Center houses 20 different medical disciplines on four floors. The center’s imaging equipment for MRI, CT, and PET is located on the first floor, which is slab-on-grade. Structural steel beams and columns support composite slab floors and metal roof deck. Structural steel bracing provides lateral stability to the building. To conform to the look of other HealthPartners’ facilities in the region, the exterior of the building is a combination of brick, precast concrete, and metal panel components. |

| St. Paul, Minnesota 130,000 HealthPartners / Gillette Hospital Pope Architects Kraus-Anderson Construction
| HealthPartners and Gillette Hospital share this medical specialty and outpatient surgery center. Because of the center’s surgery and imaging functions, vibration control was an important aspect of its design and construction and was implemented according to the AISC Design Guide #11. The building is framed with structural steel and composite concrete floor and roof slabs. Three braced frames resist lateral forces in the east-west direction. Moment frames resist lateral forces in the north-south direction. The exterior wall system is constructed with a combination of precast architectural concrete panels and clay brick backed up by cold-formed steel framing.
The adjacent two-level parking deck is constructed with precast double tees supported by precast beams and columns. The north side of the deck is supported on a tall cast-in-place concrete retaining wall that extends the entire 420-foot-length of the structure. | 544 2 Precast concrete

| Designed for future expansion, the floors of this ten-story, mid-rise tower are framed with a conventionally reinforced wide-module pan and joist system, providing a high value structure with generous flexibility. Overall framing of the structure is cast-in-place concrete. Future expansion plans include an additional three stories.

| The six-story medical office building and two-level parking facility are part of a large mixed-use development adjacent to the city-owned Centennial Lakes Park. The office tower was constructed using a conventionally reinforced wide rib concrete joist and beam framing system. The post-tensioned concrete parking structure provides space for 600 vehicles.
